Dongfang Meiren translate as "Oriental" or "Eastern Beauty". It was originally named by Queen Elizabeth II, who thought the tea encompassed the beauty of the East.

This tea is heavily oxidised. Its unique taste and aroma came from small leafhoppers called jassids, that bite on the leaves causing an enzymatic reaction within the tea plant. The tea harvest takes place close to summer, often towards the end of spring as farmers wait for the tea plants to get bitten by these tiny bugs.

A true Oolong Beauty comes from chemical-free plants. The bugs would not bite plants laden with chemicals.
