The genus name was derived from the Greek words “chrysos” for gold and “anthemon” for flower. They symbolise friendship, modesty, loyalty, cheerfulness, longevity and good spirits.

Chrysanthemum is the national flower of Japan, as it was the seal of the Imperial Family, the official flower for Mother’s Day in Australia and the plant is one of the “Four Gentlemen” of China, embodying the concept of the superior man. Chrysanthemums have a long history of medicinal use across the globe.
